What are the side effects and when should Colon Hydrotherapy be avoided ?
Colon Hydrotherapy promotes a sense of wellbeing and lightness which is conducive to maintaining a healthier diet and life style.
There are very few contra-indications and it would be expected that your therapist will go through them with you prior to the treatments. However it is best to avoid Colon Hydrotherapy in the case of bowel and rectal diseases such as ulcerated conditions, fistulae, fissures and severe haemorrhoids or after bowel/abdominal surgery. Colon Hydrotherapy is also contra-indicated in the case of severe cardio-vascular, kidney and liver disease
Colon Hydrotherapy is a safe and gentle internal bath which allows warm, filtered water into the lower bowel (colon), to effectively cleanse-out
waste, pollutants and toxic substances. This process also helps rebalance the bowel flora by enabling re-population with a stock of friendly bacteria.
Hygienic and odourless, the treatment is carried out in a private and relaxing environment. The treatment will begin with the therapist taking a full confidential case history. It is not habit-forming.
The therapist will then gently introduce a low pressure (gravity) flow of water into the colon via a small tube inserted gently into the rectum. The therapist uses special massage techniques on the abdomen to stimulate the release of the waste products and may also introduce herbs or Probiotic implants to aid the process of detoxification and cleansing. The procedure will normally take 30-45 minutes, with the therapist continuing the assessment throughout.
